AC Milan have reached a total agreement with Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan to replace Gianluigi Donnarumma if he leaves.
The AC Milan management have started to realize that the risk of Gianluigi Donnarumma leaving for free at the end of the season is quite high. If Gigio ends up rejecting the Rossoneri’s renewal offer he will be replaced with Mike Maignan.
Numerous goalkeepers have been linked with AC Milan recently but, for the Rossoneri, Maignan was the only one seen as the possible successor of Donnarumma and no other goalkeepers have been ever contacted for the job. Journalist Nicolo Schira reports that AC Milan have reached a total agreement with Maignan and Lille.
The 25-year-old French shot-stopper has agreed personal terms on a five-year contract at 2 million euros per season, plus bonuses. The purchase of Mike Maignan from Lille would cost AC Milan around 18 million euros. A relative low transfer fee for a player of his quality but because his contract expires in one year the Rossoneri are able to sign Mike on a discount.
Maignan is having a fantastic season with Lille. The French club are leading Ligue 1 with 73 points. With just 4 matches until the end of the season Lille could cause one of the biggest upsets in European football this year.
With 18 clean sheets in 34 league appearances the 25-year-old goalkeeper is playing a key role in Lille’s title hopes. At AC Milan, Maignan would reteam with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, his old teammate during their time at PSG. His arrival in Italy becomes effective after the Rossoneri receive a final answer from Donnarumma.
Mike #Maignan has agreed personal terms with #ACMilan for a contract until 2026 (€2M/year + add-ons). #Rossoneri are ready to finalize the deal with #Lille, if #Donnarumma doesn’t extend his contract. The french GK has made 18 clean sheets in this season in #Ligue1. #transfers https://t.co/pOgbwt0MAX
