AC Milan – Lecce, probable lineups

AC Milan vs Lecce

AC Milan vs Lecce

Coach Stefano Pioli makes his debut in AC Milan vs Lecce. The new Rossoneri coach will use the 4-3-3 formation with a couple of surprises in attack.

Tonight, the Stefano Pioli era will officially begin. The successor of Marco Giampaolo will make his debut as AC Milan coach in a home match at San Siro against newly promoted Lecce. On paper AC Milan vs Lecce should be a favorable game for the Rossoneri but so far the squad has disappointed even with small teams.

The players should not underestimated Lecce and a positive result could be exactly what Milan need to bonce back and finally find continuity. As expected, Stefano Pioli  will abandon Marco Giampaolo’s 4-3-1-2 game system. From now on AC Milan will line up with a 4-3-3 formation.

Gigio Donanrumma will be between the posts while two changes will happen in defence. Musacchio returns after the one-match suspension and will start from the first minute alongside captain Alessio Romagnoli. With Davide Calabria suspended for one match, after the red card against Genoa, Andrea Conti will play on the right with Theo Hernandez on the opposite side.

There are not expected surprises in midfield because Pioli has tried a lot the following trio. Lucas Biglia will be in the control room with Lucas Paqueta on the left and Franck Kessie on the right. Isamel Bennacer will have to sit on the bench. It’s interesting to see whether Pioli will deploy Bennacer as central midfielder in the second-half. The same role he occupies in the Algerian national.

Initially it was believed that Pioli would bench in-form Rafael Leao in favor of Krzysztof Piatek and Ante Rebic. It was supposed to the first-minute debut of the Croatian winger but that won’t be the case. Rafael Leao will lead the attack in the centre forward position with Suso on the right and Hakan Calhanoglu on the left. After a long time playing in midfield, the Turkey international will be seen again on the left wing just like under Gattutso.
