AC Milan identify ideal left back

AC Milan still need to sign a left-back before the end of the January window and Maldini is looking at an old target.

AC Milan have signed Fikayo Tomori, Mario Mandzukic and Soualiho Meite so far but the January transfer window is not closed. Nevertheless, the Rossoneri still need to find a new left-back.

Unable to reach an agreement for Barcelona’s Junior Firfo, and not fully convinced by the Achraf Lazaar, Milan are looking at other names. Paolo Maldini is considering again Matias Vina.

The Uruguay left-back plays for Palmeiras since the summer before before moving to Brazil was one of the names AC Milan had scouted for Theo Hernandez’s back-up.

The 23-year-old has made 25 appearances with Palmeiras and is part of the Uruguay national team since 2019. Palmeiras spent 5.5 million euros to purchase Vina from Nacional. He is solid in defence and often helps his teammates in attack in a similar way with Theo Hernandez.

AC Milan want to spent a similar figure to bring Vina in Italy but hardly Palmeiras will accept. The 23-year-old has done quite well in Brazil and has helped Palmeiras to reach the Coppa Libertadores final, to be played against Santos. Maldini has opened talks with Palmeiras to understand if a deal is possible. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, a transfer is more likely for the summer.
