AC Milan have only one option with Kessie

AC Milan have been shocked by Franck Kessie’s contract demands but for the Rossoneri there is only one option.

During the Olympics, Franck Kessie released an interview that left little room for doubts. “I am proud to have chosen Milan and it is not my intention to leave. In fact, I want to stay there forever. I just want Milan, Maldini and Massara know my thoughts. I love it when the ultras sing ‘One president, there is only one president’. When I get back from the Olympics we will fix everything.”

Exactly one month latter, the contract extension of Franck Kessie looks further than before. The situation has changed for the worse and that’s only because the Ivorian midfielder and his agent have increased their salary demands to unsustainable levels.

AC Milan have offered Kessie the renewal at around 6 million euros plus bonuses. That’s was Kessie’s initial demand. However, the Rossoneri were shocked when Kessie’s agent, George Atanagana, asked that the 24-year-old receives €7 million plus 1.5 million in easily achievable bonuses.

At this point a serious problem arises. Maldini, for his part, argues: “The guidelines of the club owner require us not to go beyond certain figures to avoid the mistakes made in the past and for which we paid a heavy price“. What Franck is currently asking is more than what the Rossoneri were willing to pay Gianluigi Donnarumma. The management is at a tight spot but in reality AC Milan have only one choice.

Either Franck Kessie renews or he will leave on a free transfer at the end of the season. For a long time Stefano Pioli has planned with Franck in his squad so selling him at the very last moment would be a big hit to his project. AC Milan will not sell Kessie. The Rossoneri still hope a reasonable middle point can be reached otherwise the former Atalanta will follow in Calahnoglu and Donnarumma’s footsteps.
