Former AC Milan coach Gennaro Gattuso will reteam with Samuel Castillejo at Valencia. The Spaniard leaves after four years at San Siro.
Valencia have completed the signing of AC Milan right winger Samuel Castillejo. New Valencia coach Gennaro Gattuso opens the summer shopping campaign with a purchase from his former club AC Milan.
Castillejo will join Valencia on an initial free transfer and has signed a four-year contract. AC Milan will save around €6 million in gross wages from his departure. The Rossoneri could profit from the departure of the 27-year-old Spanish forward if certain clauses are met on personal and team objectives. Samus says farewell to the Rossoneri after four season at San Siro.
In 2018 AC Milan spent more than €21 million, plus Carlos Bacca, in order to sign Castillejo from Villarreal. Samu failed to justify the important transfer fee spent for his services. Throughout his AC Milan spell, Castillejo scored 10 goals and assisted 15 in 113 appearances with the club. Too little for a player who was supposed to take over from Suso.
Nevertheless, Castillejo seems thrilled to work again with his former coach Gennaro Gattuso. The Spaniard flew from Milan to Spain this morning and said he was very happy with the new adventure in an interview with Superdeporte. “I did everything to come to Valencia, Gattuso is a winner. I am very happy to be here, I was about to join in January and I did everything to come here”.
Samu again highlighted how Gattuso was a decisive factor in his transfer. “I spoke to the coach and thanks to him everything was faster. You all know him as a former footballer, he has a winning mentality and we will have fun. I think that I started training already this afternoon”.
