Corriere della Sera reveals that AC Milan owners Elliot had approved the signing of both Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Luka Modric.
MILAN TRANSFER NEWS – Last season an underappreciated AC Milan coached by Gennaro Gattuso finished 5-th in Serie A, just one point behind Inter and Atalanta. The Rossoneri failed to qualify for Champions League and many believed it would have been a different story had Milan signed Zlatan Ibrahimovic in January.
Former sporting director Leonardo saw an opportunity to bring in the giant Swede last season. He negotiated a deal with his agent Mino Raiola and, when everything seemed close to a successful conclusion, Zlatan announced he would renew his contract with La Galaxy.
At that time many speculated that Ivan Gazidis was the reason the talks had failed with the AC Milan CEO reportedly blocking Ibrahimovic’s transfer because of his age. However, this is not true.
Il Corriere della Sera reports that one year ago Gazidis did not oppose the transfer of Ibrahimovic and this summer Elliot had given the green light to the signing of Luka Modric from Real Madrid. In both cases, however, the two players latter decided to stay at Real Madrid and Los Angeles Galaxy respectively.
Luka Modric was the summer dream of AC Milan but for many reasons he stayed in Spain. Zvonimir Boban latter admitted: Modric was impossible. He is a big Milan fan, an extraordinary friend and player, there was never a real possibility to acquire him. You can’t leave Real Madrid after a bad season.
