With no progress so far from renewal talks, AC Milan could lose Gianluigi Donnarumma for a ridiculous low fee this summer.
Three years after the stressful summer of 2017, history repeats itself. Once again AC Milan will have to deal with the contract situation of Gianluigi Donnarumma who risks becoming a free agent in one year.
The current contract of the 21-year-old goalkeeper expires in 2021 and so far the parties have been unable to extend it. The reality is that there has been little effort from the player and Milan to agree a contract renewal. Thus the most likely option is Donnarumma’s sale this summer.
Ivan Gazidis wants to impose a wage cap for the new season but Gigio, who currently earns 6 million per season and is AC Milan’s highest earner, has no intention of reducing his salary. His agent, Mino Raiola, has always expressed doubts on Milan’s project and has repeatedly accused Elliot of being unreliable.
Raiola and he now dreams of transferring a player to Real Madrid: “This summer I would like to bring one of my players to Real Madrid, it would be a honor for me and for all my players because Real is a great club“. Donnarumma on the other hand is exploiting this period of break to learn English. But how much would AC Milan collect from the possible sale of Gigio Donnarumma? The answer is probably not a lot.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, last summer the price tag of the Italian goalkeeper was at least €50 million. But with his contract set to expire in one year Gigio’s market value will inevitably drop and it could get halved at around €25 million. A disastrous scenario for Milan who could lose one of the best players in the world for a ridiculous low fee.
