The operation on the Frenchman’s left wrist went perfectly but Mike Maignan will stay out for a long time.

AC Milan announced yesterday that Mike Maignan has a persistent problem on his left wrist. The 26-year-old French goalkeeper underwent surgery today at the La Madonnina clinic.

Unlike the initial prediction that the former Lille star would stay out for just two weeks, AC Milan confirmed today that the recovery time is much longer and the year is over for Maignan.

AC Milan can confirm that Mike Maignan underwent an arthroscopic exam today that identified an injury to a ligament in his left wrist, which was repaired. A percutaneous pedicle screw was also fixed to the scaphoid bone in his wrist due to a vascular problem.

The operation, carried out at the La Madonnina clinic by Dr Loris Pegoli in the presence of AC Milan’s Club Doctor Stefano Mazzoni, was a perfect success. He will rest for six weeks before beginning the rehabilitation process. Maignan is expected to be out of action for ten weeks.”

In the meantime the Rossoneri have decided to sign a new goalkeeper. Former Roma shot-stopper Antonio Mirante will join AC Milan with a contract until the end of the season, with a renewal option for one year. Mirante and Tatarusanu will compete for the number one role in Stefano Pioli’s eleven.
