AC Milan have just closed the signing of the highly rated young attacking midfielder defeating the strong competition of Barcelona and Real Madrid.
The winter transfer window will open in one month. Strengthening the defence is the top priority of the club for January due to the many injuries among the Rossoneri centre backs with only Fikayo Tomori currently available for selection. However, AC Milan have never lost sight of promising young players and have just closed their first January signing.
Gianluca Di Marzio reports that AC Milan have completed the signing of Serbian starlet Matija Popovic. The soon to be 18-years-old attacking midfielder is among the most promising talents of his generation and also one of the most sought-after. Popovic will join AC Milan on a free transfer because his contract with Partizan Belgrade expires at the end of December.
Popovic will sign his new contract with AC Milan after 8 January because at that time he will have turned 18-years-old and is eligible to sign a five-year deal rather than the standard three-year contract he is currently allowed to sign by regulation. The young attacking midfielder will initially join Ignazio Abate’s Primavera squad.
Matija Popovic has excelled in the youth league of his home country. The talented attacking midfielder has been wrecking havoc with Partizan Under-19 scoring 21 goals and providing 5 assists in 25 appearances. Sensational numbers that the AC Milan scouts are confident he will be able to repeat in Italy.
There is a fear among the fans that Popovic may be just another Marko Lazetic. Lazetic failed to justify AC Milan’s investment in him and is currently on loan at Fortuna Sittard in Netherlands but is still searching for his debut goal. However, Geoffrey Moncada is highly confident that Popovic is a player of a totally different level and AC Milan have a fantastic job signing Matija on a free transfer defeating the competition of Real Madrid and Barcelona.
