New coach: Leonardo contacts Di Francesco
With Gennaro Gattuso destined to leave at the end of the season AC Milan have contacted former Roma coach Eusebio Di Francesco.
Three more matches and then Gennaro Gattuso will leave AC Milan. Regardless of how the season of the Rossoneri ends, they are still in the running for a place in the top four, at the end of the season the current Milan coach will bid farewell to his team.
It’s casting time to find the new AC Milan coach. The management is on the move even if it’s impossible now to announce a name without knowing for sure whether the Rossoneri will participate in Champions League next season or Europa League.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, at the top of AC Milan’s list of candidates at this moment is Eusebio Di Francesco. The possibility that Di Francesco becomes new AC Milan coach has increased a lot after a personal contact between Leonardo and the former Roma manager in recent hours. The Rossoneri management appreciate the Italian’s style of play and his great work with talented young players.
However, AC Milan are not the only team interested in Di Francesco. Reports from Spain have linked Di Francesco with Sevilla. Former Roma sporting director Monchi wants to reunite with the Italian coach. The two led the capitol club to a historic Champions League semi-final last year.
Still, Di Francesco isn’t the only name on AC Milan’s list. The Rossoneri management is closely observing other targets with Gian Piero Gasperini being Paolo Maldini’s top pick. Gasperini’s Atalanta has reached the Coppa Italia final this season and currently sits in fourth place in Serie A. Another alternative is Marco Giampaolo of Sampdoria while Sarri seems very complicated.
