Cardinale wants to replace Pioli with another Italian coach
The position of AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli is not safe despite the recent U-turn with Cardinale having his eyes on another name.
AC Milan have finally returned to winning ways. The Rossoneri have found minimal victory 1-0 in the last three games and it looks like serenity has returned to the club. However, the position of Stefano Pioli remains at risk and he may bid farewell to the club at the end of the season.
While in case of Stefano Pioli’s sacking Paolo Maldini would reportedly opt for names like Nesta, Shevchenko, Luis Enrique or De Zerbi, Gerry Cardinale has different ideas. La Repubblica reports that the AC Milan owner is a huge admirer of Tottenham Hotspur coach Antonio Conte.
“Pioli is a good coach but the big dream of Gerry Cardinale is Antonio Conte and everyone near him knows it. It is a long shot to say that Cardinale will surely make an offer and Conte will accept it but he is a name that AC Milan have had in mind for some time and Antonio Conte wants to return to Italy“.
It is a known fact that Antonio Conte has not spent happy moments in his last period in London. The Italian coach had to deal with the death of his two friends Gian Piero Ventrone and Gianluca Vialli. Conte has a new perspective on life and plans to return to Italy this summer to stay close to his family.
The Italian has refused the contract renewal recently offered to him by Tottenham. In order to return at the helm of another Italian club, Antonio Conte is ready to lower his high salary according to La Repubblica with AC Milan and Roma being his most likely next destinations.
