AC Milan have decided to change transfer strategy in January and focus on already proven players rather that promising youngsters.
AC Milan and Ivan Gazidis have change their strategy on focusing only on signing young players. As highlighted by Tuttosport, the January transfer market, with the three reinforcements that have come so far, has already disavowed the old mandatory transfer policy of the Rossoneri CEO.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Simon Kjaer and Asmir Begovic are respectively 38, 30 and 32 years old. So the philosophy of the under 26 players, to be purchased and enhanced for future capital gains and an assured self-financing, has already gone into the archive and who knows if it will ever return.
But not only that. On none of the three new arrivals will be possible to recover one euro of what was spent, another old dogma essential for the South African executive. Two have indeed arrived on loan, while for Ibrahimovic a new contract would also be triggered in case of well-deserved confirmation.
But to say that Gazidis has changed his mind, highlights the Italian newspaper, is obviously a partial truth. More likely, however, the manager agreed to play this desperate card to avoid the final meltdown. Especially after the 5-0 defeat against Atalanta at Bergamo.
However, a year ago, at the same period, Leonardo insisted on buying Cesc Fabregas and Ibrahimovic but Gazidis instead imposed the arrivals of the young Lucas Paqueta and Krzysztof Piatek for a total of 70 million euros spent. The suspicion, concludes Tuttosport, is that behind this change of mentality there is also something else, like the possible sale of the club for which it would not be worth spending again but, rather, returning to Europe competitions at all costs.
