AC Milan face Hellas Verona today. The Rossoneri have many injured players but they are forced to win in order to get close to Inter.
The disappointing draw with Udinese has widened the distance with first-placed Inter. The city-rivals won against Genoa and now lead Serie A with 6 points more than the Rossoneri. That’s why Verona vs Milan is a must win match for Stefano Pioli’s side.
Six Rossoneri players are injured and will not be available for Sunday’s match. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Ismael Bennacer, Mario Mandzukic, Hakan Calhanoglu and Daniel Maldini will be out while Ante Rebic is the last one to suffer an injury. Thankfully the situation of Sandro Tonali does not seems serious and he should be available for Verona vs Milan.
The Italian coach has a few formation doubts starting from the defence. Fikayo Tomori skipped the Udinese match but has returned under Pioli’s orders and is challenging Alessio Romagnoli for a starting jersey. They could also play together giving Simon Kjaer a chance to rest. Davide Calabria and Theo Hernandez complete the back four.
Similar situation in midfield. Sandro Tonali is doing personal training these days and if Pioli doesn’t want to risk him then Meite is ready to form the central duo with Franck Kessie.
Important but forced changes up front. With Rebic, Hakan and Ibra out, Pioli doesn’t have many choices in attack. Castillejo and Saelemaekers will play on the wings. Surprisingly it will be Rade Krunic to replace Calhanoglu rather than Brahim Diaz. Rafael Leao once again in the centre forward role.
HELLAS VERONA (3-4-2-1): Silvestri, Ceccherini, Gunter, Magnani, Faraoni, Tameze, Veloso, Lazovic, Barak, Zaccagni, Lasagna.
AC MILAN (4-2-3-1): Donnarumma, Calabria, Tomori, Romagnoli (Kjaer). Theo Hernandez, Tonali, Kessie, Castillejo, Krunic, Saelemaekers, Leao.
