The second Derby della Madonnina will take place tonight with AC Milan closer to Champions zone and Inter battling with injuries and suspensions.
Inter vs Milan: The new year has started on the right foot for AC Milan. Thanks to five wins and two draws the Rossoneri have progressed in the semi-final of Coppa Italia and are now in the European zone in Serie A with 7 points behind fourth-placed Atalanta and Roma. Nevertheless, the 1-1 draw against Verona has left a bad taste considering Milan would find themselves just 5 points from the Champions League.
While Inter are battling with bad news concerning their starting eleven the situation is much more optimistic at the Rossoneri. After some sessions apart, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has recovered and will lead the Rossoneri’s attack in Inter vs Milan. It will Zlatan’s tenth Derby della Madonnina, with 5 appearances for each club.
The other good news for Stefano Pioli is the full recovery of Simon Kjaer and Andrea Conti. Kjaer is expected to partner with Alessio Romagnoli at the center of the defence. As always. Theo Hernandez will be on the left with Conti preferred on the right over Calabria. At this point the former Atalanta right back has cemented his starting role in Pioli’s eleven.
Pioli will try to neutralize Inter’s creativity in midfield and for that reasons he’s changing Milan’s formation from 4-4-2 to 4-4-1-1. Ismael Bennacer returns in the control room, alongside Franck Kessie, after the one-match suspension. Hakan Calhanoglu is moved up front closer to Ibrahimovic with Ante Rebic ass left midfielder and Samu Castillejo on the opposite flank.
A couple of Antonio Conte’s stars could miss Inter vs Milan. The situation of goalkeeper Handanovic is pessimistic and Daniele Padelli will likely take his spot between the posts. Both Bastoni and Lautaro Martinez are suspended while Stefano Sensi should start from the bench.
INTER (3-5-2) Handanovic; Godín, de Vrij, Skriniar; Candreva (Moses), Brozovic, Barella, Young, Eriksen; Lukaku, Sanchez.
AC MILAN (4-4-1-1): Donnarumma; Conti, Kjaer (Musacchio), Romagnoli, Theo Hernandez; Castillejo, Kessie, Bennacer, Rebic, Calhanoglu; Ibrahimovic.
